We are all in a war right now, many of us just don’t know it. As much as 50% of the articles and “news” you read on the internet come from propaganda bots. Study after study has been done on this phenomenon. There have been long form pieces in the New York Times, the Atlantic, the BBC and more about just what is going on with the massive amount of misinformation that is being spread to America on a daily basis.
Large sections of our population are on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram only digesting propaganda. That is all the information that they have. This is the root of anti-mask culture, the root of pizzagate, its forming peoples opinions about the protestors. It’s why millions of Americans haven’t bothered to look at the news in any other countries around the world and still think COVID-19 is a hoax, no worse than the common flu.
I’ve been staying up every night for about two months now either at protests myself, or watching the livestreams of them. Mainstream media is reporting very little about what is going on at any of these places.
On the night of June 28th another shooting occurred in Seattle. The next morning I was trying to find information about it. I struck out searching on google. Google is usually the first place I will go, because you can typically find any of the media articles about what happened pretty quickly on google. I got nothing. So I went to the next place, Twitter. From my experience Twitter has been the best place to follow all of this stuff city to city. As I was getting through the depths of my “Seattle Protest Shooting” Twitter search I came across the propaganda machine in action.
Tweet after tweet posting the same photo and the same headline “Another Shooting in Seattle’s Protest Zone Leaves 1 Dead”. Hundreds of them. All the exact same photo, and headline. They came from www.campbellrivermirror.com, www.cowichvalleycitizen.com, www.vicnews.com, on and on and on.
All of these websites are fake local media sites setup online with names that borrow from small towns across the world. I’m sure they have it setup to auto-publish on hundreds of websites all at once. Then not just that, but those hundreds of websites send the tweets out at exactly the same time. All these fake twitter accounts like and share each other’s fake stories with the push of a button. Maybe even one person pushing that button. That’s a lot of firepower.
Trump is doing this. His campaign is spending millions of dollars a day on social media ads. Russia is doing this, China is doing this, and god knows who else is doing this. As America’s number one source of information has become social media over the last 5 years they have perfected the art. In the early days of COVID-19, when we were seeing dumb ass shit like the “plandemic” video, credible news sources all over the world were reporting that nearly 50% of all tweets online referencing the virus were posted by accounts that weren’t real.
On top of all the insidious ways that our information is being manipulated you have the thousands, if not millions, of idiots in the MAGA crowd happily sharing all of this information daily. There is a separate pipeline of propaganda going straight to the hands of the most adamant Bernie Sanders supporters. They all continue to happily share propaganda daily to express their anger with Joe Biden. So not only are we at war with millions of fake accounts, we have to contend with all of the idiots that they’ve already caught in their nets.
Everything that has been investigated on BS claims from Trump and his cronies has been proven to be nonsense. All of the Hilary stuff, all of the Biden stuff, all of the Obama stuff, it’s all nonsense. If it ever makes it to court, or in front of congress, it is quickly dismissed time and time again. They don’t need it to be true, they just need the attention of making the accusation.
Here is the scary part about all of this. There isn’t a robot propaganda army that is out there fighting for the truth. Fighting to let us know what is really going on. There are a few news sources that are doing their best, but they are grossly outnumbered. The fight in the future that the movies always promised, us vs the machines, that fight is happening now. We are the army spreading real news. We are the army spreading the truth, and we don’t have thousands, if not millions, of fake twitter and facebook accounts automated to share out “news” across thousands of accounts with the push of a button.
We are up against an enemy that doesn’t care about being right, they only care about the impact of saying what they say. This puts us at another disadvantage. Before a story can ever be vetted for truth, there are thousands of propaganda bots online that have already shared their sensational fake version of what happened, and it’s been directly fed to millions of scared Americans that are hungry for it.
It takes a lot to be on social media these days. It’s exhausting. It is being reflected in what’s happening on there. The side of the “real” is losing more people by the day. Even myself, I had to take a week off. There is a clear divide happening in America. On top of the race divide, the class divide, the education divide, we are seeing a divide between people based on their ability to discern the validity of information. There are millions of people in this country that trust www.campbellrivermirror.com as much as they trust the New York Times, and that’s a fucking PROBLEM.
On top of all the other issues we are trying to fight this battle while believing that tyranny is wrong. There is no limit to what the side of fascism will go to just to make sure they win in the end. What do we do with people that refuse to learn, or are incapable of learning how to tell bullshit from reality? There will always be Roger Stones and Donald Trumps, there wasn’t always enough Americans to buy their BS though. What do we do with the millions of Americans that believe pizzagate is real, that Bill Gates is trying to microchip everyone, that Soros is running an evil empire, when this is all over? This seems like a question for another time, but I’d like to plant the seed. We need to think about that, what do we do with the MAGA crowd in a post Trump world?
America is fighting a propaganda war. We are all a part of it whether or not we want to be. I’m tired of sitting on the sidelines.
